Network
Assessment:
AME recently performed a network assessment for
a K-12 Educational Institution. The School
Corporation decided to have an assessment
performed to provide documentation for future
projects and support needs.
AME engineers reviewed 12 servers and 1,100 workstations
along with existing network diagrams, TPC/IP
schemes, and security policies. AME provided
the School Corporation with a basic network
security assessment on the servers and the
network. During this portion of the assessment,
special attention was given to the current state
of Virus Protection, Power Backup, Data Backup,
Software Licensing, etc.
At the conclusion of the assessment, AME provided the School Corporation
with documentation, which included information
about the existing network and a list of
recommended infrastructure changes.
Exchange Server Upgrade:
An engineering firm had outgrown
their existing hardware infrastructure. Additional upgrades to
the Novell server and GroupWise software were needed in order to
perform their daily tasks. Their current server was being taxed
to the maximum when running the Peachtree Accounting
software application as well as email and file and print
services. The hard drives on the existing server
were full and processing speeds were slowing down.
AME loaded Windows 2003 Server on
a new Hewlett Packard DL380 server and migrated from Novell
Netware 5.0 for better file and print services. AME also
loaded Microsoft Exchange 2003 on a new Hewlett Packard DL380
server and migrated from Novell GroupWise. AME configured
forty-one (41) existing workstations to join to the new
Microsoft network. AME also upgraded to a centrally
managed backup solution and a centrally managed Anti-Virus
Solution on the new server and workstations. AME
configured the Anti-Virus Software to do Spam filtering.
The benefits that the
engineering firm received was a more scalable file and print and
email server. Additionally, they upgraded to Symantec Enterprise
Edition which will provide them with spam and virus filtering
capabilities necessary for the Exchange solution to be most
effective. The upgrade of the backup solution was necessary to
support the greater capacity of the servers, the addition of the
new email server, and a platform change.
Network Assessment:
The surgical center was experiencing
application latency between their two locations (north and south
locations). The surgical center representatives expressed a
desire for a re-evaluation of their existing LAN/WAN and server
setup as it relates to the Optical Image storage/retrieval
systems and services critical for remote office operations.
The surgical center has an
expectation of growth and expansion to at least one more remote
location over the next two years and it is necessary that the
availability of network bandwidth for remote business
applications and services be aligned with the existing business
goals and objectives to determine overall Information Technology
growth plans.
AME conducted
a network bandwidth and resource analysis review as it
relates to the remote office access of the Optical Image
storage/retrieval systems. AME also communicated with the
software application vendor and interviewed a pre-determined
number of end-users that utilize this application on a daily
basis. AME also performed an IT Assessment of the current IT
systems and WAN infrastructure as it relates to the remote
office access of the Optical Image storage/retrieval systems and
will recommend a bandwidth design for the future move of
approximately thirty administration personnel to a new facility.
At the conclusion of the assessment,
AME coordinated an onsite review meeting to provide
valuable information to the surgical center representatives on
their current network infrastructure and network needs as it
relates to the remote office access of the Optical Image
storage/retrieval systems. The information presented will
assist the surgical center in developing Information Technology
plans that will meet their existing and future network bandwidth
and Information Technology needs.
